Ceramic, Wood, Design and Photography, by Molly Whitehead

About me:

I am Molly Whitehead, a 20-year-old British-American designer utilizing wood and ceramic as my chosen mediums. Growing up on a 150-year-old dairy farm in upstate New York, as well as in a tiny apartment in the heart of New York City, created a duality of desires for my life and art. Stimulation from organic, natural materials indigenous to country life, combined with the diverse multiculturalism of New York City, generated a uniquely rich tapestry of influences. My design aesthetic is shaped by tactile explorations in water, dirt, wood, twine, clay, and a playful engagement with light, form, function, and curvilinear shapes. Experiencing the cultural melting pot of New York, as well as my good fortune in traveling through many countries at such a young age, introduced me to the power of self-expression, a love of design, and the importance of a strong sense of style.

Above all, my interest in continuing as a designer is rooted in the satisfaction of having a clearly individualistic expression that is tangible—a product that can be touched—created from my life story.
