About
Molly Whitehead (2004) is a British-American designer working primarily with ceramics and wood. Growing up on a 150-year-old dairy farm in upstate New York shaped her understanding of materials, labor, and the relationship between people and their surroundings. She is interested in the knowledge acquired through physical labor and lived experience, forms of knowledge that exist outside formal academic structures.
By working with materials that are tactile, imperfect, and connected to the natural world, she creates objects that invite reflection on labor, place, and the value of everyday knowledge. Her work is rooted in the belief that material practices can offer ways of caring for, interpreting, and preserving histories that might otherwise disappear. Her practice draws on the knowledge gained through physical work and lived experience, exploring how objects can preserve rural histories, everyday knowledge, and connections to the land.
